1995 – Donation of $35,000 to the Art Gallery of Hamilton to enlarge the collection
1994 – 100th anniversary gala celebration. Commissioned Stuart MacCuaig to write our centennial history – The First Hundred Years was published in 1996 to help celebrate Hamilton’s sesquicentennial
1968 – Special Project Fund raised $12,608 for the Art Gallery of Hamilton
1953 – Mrs. S.H. Alexander (President 1925-1928) turned the sod for a new art Gallery at Forsythe and Main Street West
1946 – The Association was incorporated on April 19. Patrons: S.H. Alexander, Lady McLaren Brown, Edythe Burroughs, Newton D. Galbrealth, Charlotte Tutty LeBarre, James Roberts. Honorary Patron: Mrs. Ray Lawson. Charter Members: Nina Alexander, Margaret E. Galbrealth, Ivy Hannaford, Florence W. Jones, Agnes G. Mckie, Amy E. Pulham and Jaunita LeBarre Symington.
1914 – A temporary Art Gallery was set up in the old public health building on Main West and a room was given to the association for its use. This group of women constantly pressed for a new Art Gallery and raising $2,313 as a donation
1894 – Hamilton was in the throes of expanding. A few women, fearful that cultural pursuits would be overlooked in the surging industrial growth, met the home of Mrs. John Calder. From this meeting, the Women’s Art Association of Hamilton was formed. With Mrs. Calder as first President, the group met in private homes and in the stock rooms of central city merchants.

Exhibitions
In 1896, the first exhibition of paintings was held. Every year since, there have been exhibitions in many galleries and locations. The highlight of each year being an annual juried show at the Art Gallery of Hamilton

Well-Known Past Members
Elizabeth Holbrook created the friezes for the Federal Building and has works in the Parliament Buildings and the National Gallery in Ottawa.
Juanita LaBarre Symington was director of Art at Appleby College.
Viola Depew was in charge of art for Hamilton elementary schools.

Outstanding Service Awards
The executive of the Women’s Art Association of Hamilton recognizes two members every year for outstanding service. The awards are presented on or near Heritage Day.
